5th International Student Course in Behavioural Biology

General description
This course is free of charge and is offered to students and young researchers (Master students, PhD students, Post docs) in behavioural sciences and related disciplines. This event will take place in-person for students based near Paris, and online for the others. It will consist of six plenary talks by international senior researchers and a poster session.



 

Registration
To register, click here. Registrations until the 31th of July 2022 will be considered. The number of participants in person will be limited to 120, and registrations will be handled on a first come, first served basis. There is no limit for the number of online participants. Participants will receive a certificate of participation on demand.

Thursday, September 8th

09:00 – 09:30. Registration, poster installation.
09:30 – 10:00. Opening.
10:00 – 10:45. Plenary #1 : “Testing the social complexity hypothesis: a comparison of vocal communication in macaques". Nancy Rebout (LEEC, Université Sorbonne Paris Nord).
10:45 – 11:15. Coffee break.
11:15 – 12:00. Plenary #2 : “Behavioural assessment of cumulative affective experience in laboratory macaques”. Colline Poirier (Newcastle University, UK).
12:00 – 14:15. Lunch break (brown bag).
14:15 – 15:00. Plenary #3 : “cultural evolution in animals”. Robert Lachlan (Royal Holloway, University of London, UK).
15:00 – 15:30. Tea break.
15:30 – 18:30. Poster presentation and evaluation.

09:15 – 10:00. Plenary # 4 : “Nest complexity in social insects - combining experiments and modelling to disentangle the underlying behavioural coordination”. Christian Jost (Centre de Recherches sur la Cognition Animale, CRCA-CBI - UPS CNRS, Toulouse, France).
10:00 – 10:15. Coffee break.
10:15 – 11:00. Plenary #5 : “Individual variability and division of labour in social insects”. Abel Bernadou (Institute of Zoology, University of Regensburg, Germany).
11:00 – 11:45. Plenary #6 : “Behavioural modifications in the urban environment allow birds to improve communication”. Diego Gil (National Museum of Natural Sciences, Madrid, Spain).
11:45 – 12:30. Final discussion and award ceremony.
